State record 18th year in a row for the perennial powerhouse Irish program.

The Notre Dame Prep volleyball program was honored this week for academics by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). It's the 18th year in a row for the Irish, who ended last season in the MHSAA district final as they came up just short in their bid to upset the second-ranked team in the state, Detroit Country Day.

Since the school opened in 1994, NDP volleyball has won four state championships — in 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2021.

According to Betty Wroubel, Notre Dame Prep's head coach and school athletic director, no other high school team in Michigan currently boasts a longer continuous streak of earning the AVCA Team Academic Award.

"I am very proud of this team, not just for earning their 18th straight AVCA Academic honor and honor roll, which places NDP among the top high school programs in the country, but most importantly, for living out our school’s mission every day," Wroubel said. "The kids work hard in the classroom, give great effort on the court, and use their time, talents and gifts to serve others outside the classroom."

AVCA said that college and high school teams receiving the team academic award display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Notre Dame Prep's team scored a cumulative 3.93 GPA during the last school year.

“It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom,” says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes.”
Teams that have received the award for 15 or more years also are highlighted on the AVCA list of honorees for their consistent commitment to academics.

About the American Volleyball Coaches Association:
