Veteran coach to head program after serving as program assistant.

The athletic department of Notre Dame Preparatory School announced today that Matthew R. Matuza has been named head varsity girls basketball coach, effective immediately.

"Matt embodies our school's mission and has seamlessly integrated himself into our community during his two years with the JV program," said Aaron Crouse, NDP's associate athletic director. "His enthusiasm at games and practices, ability to build strong relationships with student-athletes and parents, and extensive basketball expertise make him the ideal candidate to lead our program."

Matuza takes over the program after more than 1,000 games coached at various youth levels, including at the AAU, high school varsity and junior varsity levels.

Before coming to NDP, Matuza coached varsity at L’Anse Creuse North High School in Macomb, Mich. He also spent years coaching for the Michigan Cagers (AAU) out of Swartz Creek, and for Greg Grant Basketball in Sterling Heights.

He said he's looking forward to taking over the Irish program.

"It's really a dream come true for me," Matuza said. "In the past two seasons, I have met so many great people — the girls, the parents, the staff — and have so many wonderful memories. Looking forward to many more!"

Matuza holds a B.S. degree in management from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (Kettering University) and works professionally as vice president and senior financial advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Bloomfield Hills.
