Education Day gives students an in-depth look at the industry through tours hosted by experts in their fields, hands-on activities at exhibits and a wide range of career-based presentations.

The Detroit Auto Show once again welcomed school groups of all ages to attend the most prominent auto show in North America and learn valuable lessons at its resurrected Education Day on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Education Day features displays, tutorials, lesson plans and activities that are customized based on the classes and students that are attending.

And once again, Notre Dame Prep computer science teacher Katrina Palushaj accompanied a group of upper school students to the show at Huntington Place in Detroit.

Education Day, which now is combined with Industry Day, allows students an up-close and personal opportunity to experience advanced vehicles and technologies that will shape the future of the auto industry, according to show administrators, who also declared: "Our goal is to inspire these students to become involved in automotive and help steer this industry into the future."

Palushaj said the group she took to the show included students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades from NDP's intermediate and advanced honors computer science classes

"Both classes are also dual-enrollment classes with the University of Detroit Mercy where students receive college credit for UDM's engineering for intermediate and engineering for honors courses," she added. "And they all use CATIA 3D Experience software."

NDP junior Hannah DeVuyst loved the trip to the show. "It was fun, innovative, exciting, knowledgeable and interesting," she said. Senior Jacob Lei agreed, commenting that the show was "cool, entertaining, fun, interesting and engaging."

Palushaj added that the kids had the opportunity to see the newest and latest automotive designs, which allowed them to relate their class experiences to real-world applications.

"You can see the students' faces light up when they realize that all the components in the design of these cool cars use some form of 3D design software similar to what they themselves use in our classes."
