NOTRE DAME PREP ANNOUNCES NEW VARSITY BOYS SWIMMING COACH

Educator and decorated swimmer brings experience and Catholic school tradition to the Irish program.

Notre Dame Preparatory School has named Jon-Thomas Bujold as its new varsity boys swimming head coach, effective immediately.

Bujold brings extensive competitive swimming, coaching and education experience to the Fighting Irish. A four-year varsity swimmer at University of Detroit Jesuit High School, he went on to swim at Wayne State University, where he was a member of four consecutive GLIAC championship teams from 2010-14.

His coaching experience includes work with Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods, where he helped lead the team to six meet championships and seven regular-season titles, and Pointe Aquatics, where he developed training programs for NCSA, Zone and Sectional qualifiers. Bujold is a fully certified USA Swimming coach and holds current lifeguard and CPR credentials.

Bujold's academic background includes a master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from American University and a bachelor's degree in Special Education, Cognitive Impairment, from Wayne State University.

His professional experience in education includes serving as a special education teacher and, most recently, as a Special Education Teacher Consultant and Resource Room Teacher with Dearborn Heights School District. In that role, he leads district-wide initiatives related to IDEA and Section 504 compliance and develops professional development programs for district personnel. 

Previously, he worked as a Special Education Reporting Assistant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, managing statewide regulatory updates and providing technical assistance related to special education compliance.

Bujold said his background as an educator directly informs his approach to coaching.

“On the pool deck, I view training through an educator’s lens,” he said. “Individualizing adjustments and breaking down complex stroke mechanics so every swimmer can improve.”

“We’re excited to welcome Jon-Thomas to Notre Dame Prep,” said Associate Athletic Director Aaron Crouse. “His experience as a high-level swimmer and successful coach, combined with his background as an educator, makes him a great fit for our boys swimming program and the student-athletes we serve.”

Bujold said he is looking forward to bringing his experience and values to the Fighting Irish.

“Having spent years in highly organized club programs, dominant college teams and historic Catholic school cultures, I believe I bring the right mix of technical skill and values-centered leadership to the Fighting Irish,” he said.
