NOTRE DAME PREP ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS

Five members of the Notre Dame Prep community to be inducted Feb. 7 in school's main gymnasium.

From left, Bobbie Bieszki NDP'00, Molly Coldren NDP'08, Mike Durkin, Nathan Mylenek NDP'16 and Betty Wroubel have been named to Notre Dame Prep's inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame for 2024. More on the five Hall of Famers is below.


Pontiac Notre Dame Preparatory School is thrilled to announce the inaugural class of the Notre Dame Prep Athletic Hall of Fame featuring alumni, an administrator and coach, and a longtime parent volunteer and supporter. The inaugural class for the year 2024, which includes Bobbie Bieszki NDP'00, Molly Coldren NDP'08, Mike Durkin, Nathan Mylenek NDP'16 and Betty Wroubel, will be inducted the evening of February 7 in conjunction with Irish home basketball games for our boys and girls basketball teams in the school's main gymnasium. 

According to the bylaws established in June 2024, the Notre Dame Prep Athletic Hall of Fame annually will honor alumni athletes, coaches, volunteers and friends who have made significant contributions to the Notre Dame Prep athletic program and school community. Members of the hall of fame should also be role models for the Notre Dame Prep mission statement, which states that, “With God we form Christian people, upright citizens and academic scholars.

The selection committee consists of members of the Notre Dame Prep staff along with at-large members as appointed by the Notre Dame Prep athletic department. The selection committee will be limited to a maximum of seven (7) members and at-large committee members will serve a two-year term and who may be appointed for multiple terms.  

An induction ceremony for the inaugural class, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of Notre Dame Prep, will be held at halftime of the NDP boys varsity basketball game against Genesee Christian School on Friday, Feb. 7, with tip off at 5:30 p.m. Following, the NDP girls varsity basketball team will take on Genesee Christian School at 7 p.m.

A meet and greet will be held in the athletics triangle following the induction. The Notre Dame Prep athletic booster club will also be hosting a basket raffle throughout the evening with proceeds benefiting Notre Dame Prep athletics and the hall of fame.

NOTRE DAME PREP ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2024

BOBBIE BIESZKI — VOLLEYBALL | BASKETBALL | SOFTBALL

A 2000 NDP graduate, Bobbie Bieszki was the first division one scholarship athlete from Notre Dame Prep. Bobbie was a Dirty Dozen award recipient, earning varsity letters all four years in volleyball, basketball and softball. She earned First Team All-State honors in both basketball and softball, was All-State Honorable Mention for volleyball and was a recipient of the Notre Dame Prep Female Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Bobbie helped lead Notre Dame Prep to four district championships in volleyball and two district championships each in basketball and softball. Following high school, she played four years of basketball and two years of softball at Oakland University, helping lead the Golden Grizzlies to NCAA tournament appearances in both sports in 2002. Bobbie returned to Notre Dame Prep as a teacher and has helped coach numerous sports including girls’ and boys’ basketball, softball and football.

MOLLY COLDREN — VOLLEYBALL | BASKETBALL | SOFTBALL

A 2008 graduate, Molly Coldren was named Miss Softball in 2008, Gatorade Player of the Year for Volleyball in 2007 and was the 2007 Miss Volleyball runner-up. She was a member of the 2007 Notre Dame Prep volleyball state championship team, led the 2008 softball team to a final four appearance and was named First Team All-State twice in both volleyball and softball. Molly was a Dirty Dozen award recipient, earning varsity letters in all four years in volleyball, basketball and softball, and was a recipient of the  Notre Dame Prep Female Athlete of the Year award in 2008. She was named the 2007 Walt Bazylewicz CHSL Athlete of the Year and was inducted into the CHSL hall of fame in 2012. Following high school, Molly played four years of softball at Central Michigan University, where she became the single-season and career record holder for home runs and the career record holder for RBI. Molly has coached high school girls basketball, volleyball and softball and served as an athletic director, including at St. Marys Prep and Marian.

MIKE DURKIN — BOOSTER CLUB PRESIDENT | VOLUNTEER | ATHLETIC CONTRIBUTOR

A parent of seven Notre Dame Prep graduates who totaled over 70 seasons of athletic participation, Mike Durkin served as the booster club vice president from 1997-2001 and president from 2008-2016. Mike was instrumental in developing the service-based philosophy of the Notre Dame Prep booster club and affirming the importance of volunteerism in Catholic school athletics. He served on the school strategic planning committee, as a member of the athletic advisory committee, was a parent consultant on hiring committees for coaches and was part of the initial design team for the athletic performance center. Under Mike’s guidance, the Notre Dame Prep booster club helped to support several capital projects, including the all-state recognition wall, athletic wall graphics, team championship boards and scoreboards for the gyms and fields. He was also influential in setting up the models for booster club revenue sources including concession sales, the annual golf outing, 50/50 raffles and poker nights, and athletic spirit wear. Mike and his wife, Mary, were honored as Notre Dame Prep Volunteers of the Year in 2010 and Friends of the Fighting Irish in 2014. They have continued to be supporters and regular attendees of Notre Dame Prep athletic events and several of their children have returned to the school as coaches.

NATHAN MYLENEK — CROSS COUNTRY | SOCCER | TRACK AND FIELD

A 2016 graduate, Nathan Mylenek was the 2014 MHSAA State Champion in the 3200m run and earned seven First Team All-State honors in cross country and track and field. Nathan earned 11 varsity letters at Notre Dame Prep and six Spirit of the Fighting Irish awards. In track and field, he was a two-time Oakland County Champion, a six-time Regional Champion and established four Notre Dame Prep school records. Following high school, Nathan competed in cross country and track and field at the University of Iowa, twice being named a NCAA D1 All-American and earning five All-Big Ten honors. He was a three-time Big Ten Champion, four-time NCAA D1 National Championship qualifier in cross country and track and field and established three University of Iowa school records. Nathan earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, was a Team USA silver medalist at the 2017 Pan-Am U20 Championships and was a 2023 USA Track & Field Championships qualifier.

BETTY WROUBEL — ATHLETIC DIRECTOR | TEACHER | VOLLEYBALL COACH | SOFTBALL COACH

Since 1994 when Notre Dame Prep was founded, Betty Wroubel has served as a teacher, athletic director and coach at the school. Betty has been the recipient of the MHSAA Allen W. Bush Award (2010), MHSAA Women in Sport Leadership State Award (2016), MIAAA Athletic Director of the Year Award (2020) and MIAAA George Lovich State of Merit Award (2022). In 2009, Notre Dame Prep became the first private and Catholic school in Michigan to earn the MIAAA Exemplary Athletic Program under her guidance. As a coach, Betty led the Pontiac Catholic softball team to a Class C title in 1983 and the Notre Dame Prep volleyball teams to Class B/Division 2 titles in 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2021. In total, Betty has won more than 1800 games as a volleyball coach and 1000 games as a softball coach. She was named National High School Coach of the Year by AVCA in 2007 and state coach of the year by MIVCA for Class B in 2007, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2021. Betty also has been named the NHSACA National Coach of the Year in 2019, the MHSCA Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2014 and the NFHS Coach of the Year for volleyball in 2018 and is a member of five athletic halls of fame.
