Ethan Dhomnic expands his college preparation protocol after being named a College Board BigFuture™ Ambassador.

Notre Dame Prep junior Ethan Dhomnic has been named a College Board BigFuture™ Ambassador for the spring of 2024. BigFuture focuses on helping high school students take the right first steps after high school, whether considering four-year colleges, two-year colleges or technical programs.

As a BigFuture Ambassador, Dhomnic will serve as a bridge between his school community and the College Board's college planning and search platform, BigFuture. He said he reached out to the program after a random search found it on what happened to be the final day the application was due.

"I looked into it more fully and became more interested in it," he said. "I like BigFuture because of all the extensive college prep resources it offers, and I'm interested in promoting these resources to classmates at school. I also became an ambassador in the program to better stand out to colleges in applications."

He wants to make sure that other NDP students are aware of the wealth of resources available to them through BigFuture. Dhomnic may organize workshops, distribute informational materials, and engage with his fellow students to help them explore, plan and prepare for higher education opportunities.

It is still another extracurricular activity that will add to an already busy school day for Dhomnic. He's on the school's FIRST robotics team, and serves as vice president of the computer club. He's a part of the peer mentor program, volunteers with the Mass leaders team, and participates in the NDP Model United Nations team.

Jennifer Pakkala, a science teacher at NDP's upper school, said Dhomnic holds his own in the classroom as well.

"Ethan's a fantastic student," she said. "I had the pleasure of teaching him last year in honors chemistry and I have seen him grow from a sophomore full of questions to an academic powerhouse as a junior."

Now looking at his final year of high school as well as the next level, this Holy Family alum appears to be well prepared for his own "big future."

"My top two colleges currently are the University of Michigan and the Georgia Institute of Technology," he said. "I really would like to study computer science, engineering and cybersecurity. And my dream career would be somewhere within the cybersecurity field."
