Highly competitive season saw the Killer Bees make big progress with a number of key wins and special awards.
The Killer Bees are with their special Excellence in Engineering award in Houston.
Last week in Houston, Texas, Notre Dame Prep's Killer Bees, the school's legendary FIRST robotics team, put in an outstanding performance, coming home with a prestigious special award. Senior Ethan Dhomnic, the team's club president and recruitment lead, said their final event of the season went very well.
"We had a relatively strong showing at the championship in Houston and had a 9-5 record in qualification matches," he said. "We competed in the playoffs in the Hopper division field with our partners, the Laker Dreadnoughts from Pigeon, Mich., the CyberKnights from Southington, Conn., and Metal Muscle from Flint, and combined for a deep run in the playoffs."
He added that given the competitiveness of their division, their alliance performed extremely well despite an early exit.
"The highlight of our competition run was winning the Excellence in Engineering award in our division, the Hopper division," Dhomnic said. "It is much more competitive to win awards at the World Championship vs. at in-state events as there are many more teams in consideration in the Worlds.
"Overall, we had a highly successful 30th anniversary season, with our two event wins and being ranked in the 97th percentile of teams globally and in the 99th percentile of teams in Michigan," he said.
After returning from the championship in Texas, last Thursday, the Killer Bees held a day-long robot presentation at the Chrysler Tech Center to promote the team and to support the "bring your kid to work" day of activities at Stellantis."
Team 33, the Killer Bees, demonstrated their robot designed and built for the team's 30th anniversary season at the Chrysler Technical Center in Auburn Hills on April 24.
