Notre Dame Prep to celebrate its second Athletic Hall of Fame Class January 30.

From left, Chris Burns NDP’10, Buzz Famularo and Taylor Timko NDP’14 have been named to Notre Dame Prep's Athletic Hall of Fame for 2025. More on the three Hall of Famers is below.

Notre Dame Preparatory School is proud to unveil the second class of the Notre Dame Prep Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring three individuals whose impact on Irish athletics and the broader school community has been both lasting and meaningful. This year’s class includes alumni Chris Burns NDP’10 and Taylor Timko NDP’14, along with longtime coach, volunteer and parent, the late Buzz Famularo.

The Class of 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame will be formally inducted on Friday, January 30, during a special evening in the school’s main gymnasium held in conjunction with Irish home basketball games. The induction ceremony will take place at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Genesee Christian School, which tips off at 5:30 p.m. The girls varsity team will follow with its matchup against Genesee Christian at 7 p.m.

Established under bylaws approved in June 2024, the Notre Dame Prep Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes alumni athletes, coaches, volunteers, and friends who have made significant contributions to the school’s athletic programs and community. Honorees are also expected to exemplify the Notre Dame Prep mission: “With God we form Christian people, upright citizens and academic scholars.”

Hall of Fame selections are made by a committee composed of Notre Dame Prep staff members and at-large representatives appointed by the athletic department. The committee consists of no more than seven members, with at-large members serving two-year terms and eligible for reappointment.

Nominations for the Notre Dame Prep Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026 are due by May 1, 2026. Additional information and nomination details can be found at: https://www.ndprep.org/athletics/hall-of-fame

MEET THE NOTRE DAME PREP ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2025:

CHRIS BURNS: CROSS COUNTRY | TRACK AND FIELD | SOCCER

A 2010 graduate, Chris Burns was the 2009 MHSAA Individual State Champion in Cross Country and earned five First Team All-State honors in cross country and track and field. He earned seven varsity letters at Notre Dame Prep between soccer, cross country, and track and field, was named the 2010 Notre Dame Prep Male Athlete of the Year, was a five-time MHSAA Regional Champion between cross country and track and field, received Dream Team honors in cross country, and received CHSL scholar-athlete leader awards in both cross country and track. At the time of his graduation, Chris held school records in five cross country and track and field events and was the track team leading in scoring for three consecutive years.

Following high school, Chris attended the United States Naval Academy, where he was a nine-time varsity letter winner across cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. He was a three-time Patriot League team champion in both cross country and track, and an IC4A individual regional qualifier. A U.S. Navy Rotary Wing Weapons School graduate, recognized as the 2020 Naval Helicopter Association Aircrew of the Year, Chris was personally commended as the Aircraft Commander who led the most notable deployed helicopter mission.

BUZZ FAMULARO: BASKETBALL COACH | ATHLETIC CONTRIBUTOR | VOLUNTEER

A parent of three Notre Dame Prep graduates and a fixture on campus, the late Buzz Famularo served as a coach in the Notre Dame Prep boys basketball program from 2006–2018. He spent time as a head coach at the CYO, freshman, and JV levels, while also serving as a varsity assistant coach. In addition, “Coach Buzz” spent several years as a CYO and JV football coach. He was a major contributor to the Notre Dame Prep Oktoberfest Parent’s Club event and consistently volunteered for any position needed within the Booster Club.

Buzz helped develop an annual retreat for the boys basketball program in Boyne City, reinforcing the school mission statement and reminding athletes that basketball was only one part of who they were becoming. He was instrumental in coordinating pregame chapel services before every game for the basketball programs, sharing parables or stories that connected back to faith, character, and purpose - and explaining how their messages applied to basketball, teamwork, resilience, humility and how the players carried themselves as young men. Buzz was a constant presence in his athletes’ lives, supporting them in their multi-sport and school arts endeavors, always checking in to make sure they felt seen and supported.

Buzz battled cancer twice, yet he never stopped showing up for his athletes. He coached through treatments, attended events, and continued to pour himself into the program with unwavering love and commitment. He showed the players what real strength looks like, reaffirming his investment in them at every level - in sports, in life, in character, and in faith. Coach Buzz passed away August 17, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
