Notre Dame Prep students excel at regional event sponsored by HOSA, a global student-led organization focused on empowering future health professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience.

At the December 16 regional conference of HOSA, which is an international career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE, four members of Notre Dame Prep's HOSA chapter competed with three placing in the top eight and advancing to the state competition in April.

Alessa Atallah, a junior at NDP and one of the regional finalists, said the conference held at Troy High School was very competitive.

"All of the students had a wonderful experience and are looking forward to states, she said. "Congratulations to NDP's HOSA chapter!"

Sophomore Maria Charef (nutrition category), and juniors Erin Connelly (sports medicine), Geralyn Nguyen (physical therapy) and Atallah (health career photography) participated in the event. Connelly and Nguyen joined Atallah as regional finalists.

HOSA offers up to 82 competitive events, ranging from skill-based to leadership and team-based. The event groups are as follows: Health science, health professions, leadership, and recognition events. Members compete at the regional, state and international levels and those who place in the top three positions at the state level are given the opportunity to compete at the international level.
