Notre Dame Prep's middle school and the National Junior Honor Society recognize Alexis Bigelow as one of only 500 nationwide to be named an NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award recipient.

Alexis Bigelow, an eighth grader at Notre Dame Prep, has been selected as a National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award recipient. As a result, Bigelow receives $500 in a 529 college savings account to be applied toward her higher education.

Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the five pillars of NJHS: scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.

Thousands of applications were received and judged on the five pillars as well as on their qualifications for service, citizenship and leadership. Students also were required to each get a letter of recommendation attesting to their character and submit their grades to cover the scholarship portion. In addition, they each wrote a required essay.

Eighth-grader Alexis Bigelow receives congratulations from middle school Vice Principal Kelly Patterson at the National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony held Sept. 8, 2024, at Notre Dame Prep.

"Alexis is one of the strongest leaders we've had in the middle school," said Kelly Simon, middle school language and literature chair and NJHS co-advisor (with Sydni Oliver). "She exemplifies not only our Marist mission, but also demonstrates the NJHS five pillars in all she does: in the classroom, the hallways or on any field or court. So proud that a national organization as prestigious as NJHS sees what we see in her!"

The year 2025 marks the 10th year that 500 NJHS students from across the country were selected to receive $500 awards in the form of the education savings account. To date, $2.5 million has been awarded to 5,000 middle school students nationwide.
