Notre Dame Prep's boys soccer and football teams were honored by the Pontiac City Council Tuesday evening for winning MHSAA championships this past fall.

Along with coaches and members of both teams, the council chamber was jam-packed with people there to support the players, including parents, friends and school administrators.

First up, District 5 Council Member William Parker read a proclamation congratulating the soccer team and Head Coach Rob Suffredini.

"The Pontiac city council resolution celebrating and honoring Notre Dame Prep's 2024 Michigan high school soccer state championship, whereas the 2024 soccer team representing Notre Dame Prep demonstrated extraordinary dedication, teamwork and skill throughout the 2024 soccer season.

"And whereas the Notre Dame 2024 soccer team under the outstanding leadership of Ron Suffredini and the support of their assistant coaches, the team consistently displayed exemplary sportsmanship, perseverance and commitment to excellence," Parker continued. "And whereas the Notre Dame Prep soccer team triumphed in the 2024 division 3 state championship game, defeating Elk Rapids, 3-2, to secure the MHSAA division 3 championship."

Following the soccer proclamation, Council Member Milanna Jones, who represents Pontiac's District 2, read the proclamation honoring Head Coach Patrick Fox and the Irish football team.

"The Pontiac city council resolution celebrating and honoring Notre Dame Prep's 2024 Michigan high school football state championship, whereas the 2024 football team representing Notre Dame Prep demonstrated extraordinary dedication, teamwork and skill throughout the 2024 football season.

"And whereas the Notre Dame Prep football team triumphed in the 2024 division 5 state championship game, defeating Frankenmuth, 42-7, to secure the MHSAA division 5 championship."

Both coaches and a number of players also spoke, thanking the council and mayor for the proclamations and and acknowledging the hard work and dedication of their players, parents and the school community at large.

Head of School Andy Guest also addressed and thanked the city council for their support, and concluded the ceremony by leading the entire council chamber in a rousing rendition of the Notre Dame Prep victory march.

The Notre Dame Prep boys varsity soccer team made history Nov. 2, 2024, when they captured the first MHSAA Championship in program history following a 3-2 win over Elk Rapids in the MHSAA final held at Grand Ledge High School.

Not even a month later, on Nov. 31, 2024, Coach Fox's football team earned the program's first state crown in school history with a 42-7 win over Frankenmuth at Ford Field.
