Donald B. Taylor, Ph.D., who is the president of the University of Detroit Mercy, visited the Notre Dame Prep campus today as part of a fact-finding mission that included a tour and meeting with NDP officials.

He was joined from Detroit Mercy by Rev. Charles O. Oduke, UDM's vice president for mission integration, and Dennis Carlesso ND'86, who is vice president for university advancement (interim) and executive director of development for the Catholic university, which is located in northwest Detroit.

According to NDP Principal Kim Anderson, the UDM group visited to learn more about Notre Dame Prep, its programs, and to discuss strengthening the two schools' relationship.

"They were quite impressed with our robotics center and enjoyed learning more about our VEX and FIRST robotics programs as well as our upper school engineering and empathy course," Anderson said. "In fact, UDM has a similar capstone E&E course as part of their own curriculum."

After a tour of the 1300 Giddings campus, the administrators from UDM sat down with Anderson, NDP Head of School Andy Guest ND'84; former NDP board president and UDM graduate/board member Bill Kozyra; and members of NDP's counseling department to talk about areas of mutual interest, including some of the new opportunities that will become available to future UDM students.

"Mr. (Vlado) Salic and Mrs. (Margie) Bond were especially pleased to hear about the exciting things in store for young men and women who end up attending Detroit Mercy," Anderson said.
